The nature of the research undertaken in the Fitch Laboratory and its cross-disciplinary character are reflected in the following broad themes:

- Island connections and technological landscapes;

- Technologies of production, consumption and exchange;

- Migration, identity, and mobile technologies.

The dominant focus of all these themes is the concept of technology. Our multi-scalar and interdisciplinary approach to this concept brings together studies of material culture and material science, landscape studies, bioarchaeology, experimental archaeology, ethnography and ethnoarchaeology (examples of current projects may be found here).
