The Countdown is on! Celebrating 50 Years of the Fitch Laboratory (1974-2024)
In one year today, The Marc and Ismene Fitch Laboratory for Archaeological Sciences will mark its 50th anniversary on November 29th, 2024. Originating as an experiment under the visionary guidance of Hector Catling (BSA Director 1971-89) and through the generous support of Marc and Ismene Fitch, the laboratory has evolved into a dynamic, leading centre, that has pioneered the application of scientific techniques in archaeological research in Greece and beyond.
Throughout this celebratory year, we have planned a series of events, from academic conferences to community events that bring potters and archaeologists together. There will also be a series of communications designed to explore the laboratory’s history, showcase our research, and look to the future of the laboratory and our field, these will be published primarily on our blog.
We hope you will join us in commemorating five decades of archaeological excellence and discovery. Stay tuned to the BSA social media channels and our website for updates on upcoming events and communications.
