Digital Humanities Assistant (fixed term, 24 months; 0.5 FTE)
The British School at Athens (BSA) is seeking a dynamic and innovative Digital Humanities Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and support of digital humanities projects. You will work closely with staff to understand digital requirements and integrate digital tools and methods into research, publication and teaching.
Key Responsibilities:
• Project Management: Collaborate with staff and researchers to design, plan, and implement digital humanities projects, ensuring they meet academic and technical standards.
• Digitize Analog Assets: At the direction of the IT Officer and in support of staff, create metadata and organize digitization work, then ingest newly digital assets into collection management systems.
• Collaboration: Foster interdisciplinary collaboration between staff and technical experts, bridging the gap between traditional humanities research and digital innovation.
• Research and Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, tools, and best practices in digital humanities and related fields, and integrate these into ongoing projects.
Qualifications:
• Education: A Master’s degree preferred in Digital Humanities, Library Science, Information Technology, History and Archaeology or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in digital humanities, digital scholarship, or a related area, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis, data standards, office applications include Excel, data management tools such as Python, R, MySQL and PostGres.
• Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Project Management: Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, including faculty, students, IT professionals, and external partners.
The position (fixed term, 24 months; p/t, 0.5 FTE) is available 1st October or as soon as possible thereafter. A probationary period will apply. Residence in Athens (Greece) is a requirement and a working knowledge of Modern Greek is desired.
