Athens Archaeology Festival 2025

Join us on Saturday, 18th October 2025, for the Athens Archaeology Festival, a day of discovery and hands-on exploration set in the beautiful grounds of the British School at Athens. This year’s theme, “Myths & Mysteries,” invites you to explore secrets of the past through interactive activities, live demonstrations, and engaging exhibits. A diverse range of organisations will bring archaeology to life, offering experiences for all ages. Whether you’re fascinated by ancient legends, curious about lost civilisations, or eager to try your hand at archaeological techniques, there’s something for everyone!

Call for Applications

Are you passionate about making archaeology exciting and accessible for the general public? We are seeking creative and engaging, interactive workshops and activities to feature at the Athens Archaeology Festival, themed “Myths and Mysteries”, to be held at the British School at Athens on Saturday 18th October 2025.

This is your chance to bring archaeology to life and connect with a broad audience in fun and meaningful ways whilst gaining essential public engagement experience.

What we’re looking for

We invite proposals for interactive workshops and activities that explore stories from the past centred around this year’s theme.

• Activities should be designed for families, with drop-in tasks taking 10-15 minutes to complete, but offering opportunities to expand for those who are curious to learn more.
• They should be creative, hands-on, and educational, fostering curiosity about ancient myths and archaeology
• and should humanise objects and stories of the past, illustrating the relevance of archaeology to our lives today. 
• Types of activities could include hands-on crafts, interactive experiments, storytelling and games, scavenger hunts etc.

What we offer

Successful applicants will receive:

• Public engagement training as a group 
• One to one support throughout the planning and execution of their activities
• Publicity through the Greek media and other outlets 
• A buffet lunch on the day

Additional details

• Due to reasons of space, this year we are limiting the call to research institutions, museums, and the Ministry and Ephoreia in Athens and Attica
• Activities will be held outside in the BSA gardens
• At least one team member should be able to communicate in Greek and in English 
• Applications will be considered by a committee of experts and you will hear the result of your application by 11th April
• Selected applicants will need to cover the cost of their own materials.
